House for Mother by Förstberg Ling

Around a year ago, two creatives – Björn Förstberg and Mikael Ling, started their own independent design practice while establishing an eponymous architecture buro Förstberg Ling. The first accomplished project that came through this collaboration was House for Mother.

House for Mother, placed in Linköping, Sweden is dedicated to Björn's mother Maria, a librarian, and passionate weaver. First, the team of Förstberg Ling needed to deal with the particular terrain and fit the building into the unusually narrow plot.

They decided to dwell the shape of the building into two parts shifted from each other. In fact, they are functioning as one coherent space. Facades covered with corrugated aluminum, create a play of light and shade. Together with raw concrete, the outlook of the building gives an impression of simple and insensate. Only in combination with wood, that appears on construction, window frames and inner space, the project became unique and balanced. Inner space, predominated by plywood and light planes, is warmth additionally by various textiles. The whole project is an example of a modest, yet visually appealing project that is fully adjusted to its inhabitant's needs.
